Sofia is based in UK and Sweden. Born in 1979, from a Swedish and American background, Sofia Sköld moved from the swedish countrydie to London in 2003, where she graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Since 2007, Sofia has lived and worked as an artist and designer in UK and in Sweden.

Sofia’s creative practice lies in the combination of various disciplines including painting, design and writing. She merges art practice with concerns of ordinary life in order to explore and question the surroundings.

Keeping an open mind and all senses acute resume the artist’s philosophy and the underlying theme of her art practice as she aims to explore identity, vulnerability and the relationship between humans and the natural world.

Sofia’s abstract, emotional, freely-scribbled paintings are often created as large-scale landscapes. The paintings are often created using oil or acrylic paint, crayon and sometimes torn paper, and charcoal on canvas or on plywood.

Sofia has also worked on a broad range of commissions and design projects with a client focused approach, this includes written pieces, graphic design, art direction, children’s clothing design as well as illustrations for fashion and publications.

The work invites to conversation, reflection and reshaping of perception.
